Another Spring snow storm dumped 8 to 10 inches of wet heavy snow on Estes Park overnight. This picture was taken this morning in my neighborhood. The fun thing about this storm was the absence of wind. All the snow fell straight down and loaded up all the tree branches. My 3 year old son looked out the windows this morning at our trees and said “The branches are so BIG!”

The Lily lake trail is a short lake loop skirting the banks of Lily Lake just south of Estes Park on Highway 7. Technically, it is inside Rocky Mountain National Park but there is no fee necessary to access this loop. The trail is very easy going (handicapped accessible) and is surrounded by great views of Longs Peak, Meeker, Estes Cone, Twin Sisters and Lily Mountain.

Fern Falls is one of my favorite waterfalls in Rocky Mountain National Park. Starting at the trailhead, the trail follows ponds, rivers, and mountain streams the entire way. Just before you reach the falls, the trail leaves the water’s edge and continues uphill through three trees.

This gorgeous lake reflection of Mount Meeker was taken from the shores of SandBeach Lake in the Wild Basin Area in the early morning after spending the night at one of the backcountry sites that line the shore. Pictures like this make me eager for summer to get here quick!
